🚀 Feature Introduction: Tax Groups & Rates

Overview

We’re excited to announce the release of the Tax Groups & Rates feature. This enhancement allows operators to apply single or multiple tax rates to items through flexible Tax Groups, enabling precise tax calculations, detailed receipt breakdowns, and improved compliance with tax requirements.

What’s New?

Canopy 2.0 > Settings > Tax Groups

Tax Groups

Operators can now configure Tax Groups, each with:

An internal name for easy identification.
A taxation rule:
- Exclusive: tax is added on top of the item price.
- Inclusive: tax is backed out from the item price.
One or more associated Tax Rates.
Assignment to specific items.
Deactivating a Tax Group will mark all assigned items as non-taxable in one click.

Tax Rates

Tax Rates within a group include:

An external name, shown on receipts and order confirmations.
A percentage rate (e.g., 8.75%).

This means multiple tax rates can apply simultaneously to a single item, and each tax will appear as a separate tax line on receipts and order confirmation screens.

Taxable Service Charge

Taxable service charges are now supported for all taxation methods. To create a new Taxable Service Charge, navigate to Settings > Charges & Fees. A new option has been added to the configuration drawer which allows operators to select a respective Tax Group.

What's Next?

SkyTab Venue has performed a migration of all existing venue-level and item-level tax rates and rules into new Tax Groups & Rates. Each of the generated Tax Groups have been assigned to the existing items in each venue. There should be no configuration needed by clients. However, if you would like to take advantage of multiple tax rates on items, you may edit or create new Tax Groups.

Note: Printing of multiple tax rates on POS and Kiosk printed receipts is supported in APK version 2.20 and higher (release date is TBD). On APK version 2.19.7 and earlier, the total tax amount on the order will print as a consolidated line item on receipts. Multiple tax rates will appear on separate lines on digital receipts upon feature enablement.
